Her Story

Abigail Yohannes (September 29, 2004 – April 5, 2026) was a bright, compassionate, and determined young woman whose life continues to inspire many. She had a deep love for learning and a strong belief in kindness, equality, and helping others.

Abigail completed her studies in Sociology at Duke University, a field she chose because of her passion for understanding people, communities, and the challenges they face. Through hard work and dedication, she fulfilled all the requirements for her degree.

Although Abigail passed away just before her graduation , Duke University honored her achievement by awarding her diploma, recognizing her academic excellence and perseverance. This meaningful recognition reflects the strength and commitment she carried throughout her journey.

From a young age, Abigail loved reading. She often read multiple books at once, always curious and eager to grow. Her passion for knowledge shaped her vision to one day make a difference in society, especially in areas related to people, equality and justice.

She was known for her gentle spirit, warm smile, and kind heart. Abigail believed all people are equal and treated everyone with respect and compassion. Her presence brought comfort, peace, and positivity to those around her.

Though her life was tragically short, Abigail’s legacy lives on through the vision of the Abigail Yohannes Foundation, which focuses on:
